Who Shook Hook Game: How to Play

Before we played Jake and the Neverland Pirates Who Shook Hook, I had to set up the whole game board so that it looked like it does in the picture below.  All of the game board must be assembled before play, and if your kids are little, it will need to be put together by Mom or Dad.

The hammock is the main item that needs assembling before the Disney Who Shook Hook game pieces can be put onto it for play.  You can see below the hammock after I hooked it up to the board and loaded Captain Hook on it.

After I snapped the trees into the bases on the Who Shook Hook game board, the hammock got attached to the trees with included fabric covered rubber bands.Who Shook Hook Game Review - Home Ever After

Next, I put Captain hook on the hammock, being careful to balance him in the middle where he wouldn’t fall off.

Adding all of the game “treasures” to the hammock after Captain Hook was on it was very difficult.  I would say the longest part of playing the Who Shook Hook game was setting up the board, hammock, and pieces.  The treasures include little barrels, treasure chests, sacks of gold, and totems.

You pick out your character from Jake and the Neverland Pirates.  This will be your game piece that moves around the Who Shook Hook game board while you play.  Here are two of the pirate character pieces, Jake and Izzy.

There are four tools that you can use to take treasures off of Captain Hook’s hammock: the fishing pole, the sword, the shovel, and the vine tweezers.

It’s very slow and careful work to remove a treasure from the Who Shook Hook hammock when it’s your turn.  You have to make sure that the hammock stays balanced the whole time and you don’t drop treasures onto the board or knock off Captain Hook.

The two easiest tools to use are the vine tweezers because you can grip with it and the yellow fishing pole because it has a hook at the end.

If you accidentally knock down a treasure, it goes under the hammock with Tick Tock Croc and nobody gets to count it towards their winnings.

I tried to use the fishing pole as my tool whenever I had a choice!  In the four times we played the Who Shook Hook game, we only knocked Captain Hook down once (and it was me that knocked him down, not the kids!).

My son is only 5, but he was really good at the game!  He only dropped a treasure once.  I thought it would be a lot harder for him to play, but it wasn’t.

Who Shook Hook Game: The Good and Bad

Bad:  The only negative thing about the Disney Who Shook Hook game is that it takes a long time to set up before play.

Good:  The rules for Who Shook Hook are easy to understand and the game pace moves quickly.  The object is to get the most treasures without waking up Captain Hook.  Even if you don’t have such a steady hand, the spinner and game board make it an equal chance for anyone to win.

Who Shook Hook Game: Take It or Leave It

Take It: This is a fun game of patience, concentration, and dexterity.  It’s a great change for families if you normally play louder or more casual board games during family game night.  We had a great time playing Who Shook Hook as a family!

Where to Buy Disney Who Shook Hook Game
